Thompson Rigg Barn is a stunning open-plan studio lodge tucked away in North Yorkshire's countryside. This converted barn sits on a working farm near Thornton Dale, between Pickering and Scarborough. Complete privacy and panoramic views make this accommodation special. The owners Alan and Helen have created something that'll make you want to delete your dating apps and move in permanently.

The setting is pure Yorkshire magic. Fields, woodland and moorland stretch out in all directions. You can walk straight onto National Trust moorland or explore Dalby Forest. Perfect for stargazing with zero light pollution. Want to see wildlife? The bird life here is amazing - owls hooting while you're in the hot tub is pretty much guaranteed. Plus you can feed the friendly donkeys and Sherman the sheep daily.

The accommodation is an open-plan studio with everything thoughtfully arranged. A king-size bed, modern kitchen area with electric hob and combi microwave oven, cosy sitting area with smart TV and a dining space. There's even a mezzanine study area if you need to pretend to work. The bathroom has a shower, basin and WC. Everything is spotlessly clean and modern.

Nearby attractions include the pretty village of Thornton Dale (12 miles), historic Whitby (30 minutes drive), seaside Scarborough (13 miles/25 minutes), impressive Rievaulx Abbey (35 minutes) and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (15 minutes). Thompson Rigg Barn was gorgeous. The barn itself is decorated with such elegance and care, you can tell. The views from the barn are amazing. Easy access to Dalby Forest and Pickering.

Absolutley amazing. The pictures do not do the barn and surroundings justice. Follow the directions given to arrive and as stated do not trust a satnav. Once there you'll find many ways in and out via roads and tracks that make for a great adventure in itself!! The area is the epitome of peace and quite, no sound but the wind and bird song, of which there are many species and a fox!! Alan & Helen are excellent hosts who will look after you. The barn is very well equipped and we loved the mezzanine level for a fun place to sit. Loads of pots,pans etc to keep you going with a great kitchen area There's plenty to do if you want to explore. The Dalby Forest is on the doorstep, the road through is a toll road but the first 12 is free which is plenty enough time to drive through to Thornle Dale, walks from the barn via many footpaths or go further afield into North Yorkshire. We will be back, no doubt about that!!

We had a fabulous 4 night stay a the barn conversion at Thompson Rigg Farm. We were met by the owner who was extremely friendly and were shown around. The setting is absolutely beautiful, the barn was very wonderful, nicely decorated and very cosy. From the hot tub, wood burning stove to the fabulous kitchen, the whole stay was perfect and very peaceful. There are lots of local places to hike and Dalby Forest is very close by. We will definitely be returning!

This has to be one of the most wonderful places in the country to stay. Total peace and quiet with the 4 donkeys and 1 sheep to keep you amused as well as a visiting pheasant. Place was exactly as described and perfectly clean. Hot tub was the best we have used and the views just wonderful It's a wonderful drive to it to through Dalby forest and lovely shops and cafes at thornton le Dale and Malton a short drive away. The hosts were amazing and on hand to sort any issues of which we didn't have any . Only thing I would mention is it just needed a better mirror to do hair and make up in other than that perfect Thank you Alan and Helen and the boys for a wonderful stay

We loved our stay at Thompson Rigg Farm. It was cosy, comfortable and had wonderful walks straight from the door. Then, the bonus of enjoying the night sky from the hot tub! It was great to slow down and simply enjoy the peace and tranquility. For us it was the perfect place to spend Christmas.

Absolutely loved our stay, booked it for my birthday and went with my mum. We really enjoyed the peace and quiet of the place, the sheep & donkeys were so cute and we loved feeding them the apples from the many apple trees on the grounds, enjoyed the jacuzzi, & playing games during the night. Such a beautiful cottage, well stocked with everything you may need and so beautiful decorated. Will definitely be booking it again next year. The hosts were also very friendly & welcoming. This has been one of the best locations we have stayed in, with friendly rescue donkey and sheep to keep you entertained. In the most beautiful surroundings in a secluded location. This stunning little barn conversion and its location is a must for anyone seeking some much needed refuge from the hustle and bustle of daily life. An abundance of wildlife, moorland, woodland and the opportunity to take yourself off walking wherever your heart desires. The property has all your modern essentials and has lots of character. The open plan layout makes the place feel a lot more spacious as well as allowing lots of natural light to flow through. The hosts, Helen and Alan and their family made us feel super welcome. They provided us with a few additional extras it was my birthday and the thoughtful act of kindess was grately appreciated. For anyone who hasn't had the privilege of staying before, I would suggest purchasing your groceries before arrival as the nearest convenience store is several miles away. The barn has an under counter fridge and small counter top freezer, which we found perfectly adequate. All in all, I would Highly Recommend this property. I wish everyone could have the privilege of experiencing this magical place.

This was the most relaxing holiday break we've ever experienced the barn was exceptional with everything you need and more, our hosts Helen and her hubby have thought of everything, from their welcoming smiles on arrival to the little things like a torch, walking stick, crocs to walk to the hot tub, games and more. The location was fantastic walking distance to the forest and a few meters from the moors with beatiful views 360 and most of all our new friends their 4 donkeys who came up to the fence for a stroke and a carrot and apple treat. Where can I start? This wonderful place was a DREAM to stay. It was clean, welcoming, romantic, peaceful and above all the stunning views you get with it. The owners are absolutely lovely people and welcome you. The barn itself was beautiful. You have everything provided and more. All you need to bring is your items and food & drinks when me and my partner arrived we was blown away. It was more than we expected. We had an incredible 3 days stay and would recommend it to everyone. So, if youre looking for a very peaceful break away in this incredible area then this place is perfect for you. All you can hear is birds, donkeys and all the animals. Its heaven. 1010 area and place to stay and lovely walks to go on. Highly recommend!!

Thompson Rigg farm is situated in the most idyllic and peaceful surroundings. Allowing us to travel a short distances to local coastal areas or kickback and enjoy the peace and quiet, and taking advantage of the hot tub. Greeted by great hosts Alan and Helen, the lovely and friendly farm dog,I think Flash and lovely and friendly donkeys, that you can feed and brush anytime. We had a lovely stay at Thompson Rigg barn, we had every season during our 3 night stay but when you have your supplies in and the fire on, nothing else matters but to relax. The hot tub is huge, everything you could need for a comfortable stay provided, including mote than enough wood for the fire and the lovely touch of the coffee, beer and prosecco. A definite recommendation for a calm and relaxing break away from the rest of the world

We had a great time seeing the new year in in the hot tub at the barn. It snowed and we went on lots of lovely walks. The owners were super helpful and around to offer advice and help. Genuinely the most relaxing break weve ever had. I was looking for somewhere secluded and this was just perfect. The barn was better than in the pictures, the conversation so well thought out to accommodate every need. We brought a good supply of food and drink as the barn is a good 20 minutes from anywhere which is exactly why it appeals. We stayed 3 nights and could have happily stayed a week and not moved from the cabin. Watching the sunrise and sunset in the hot tub was a highlight well never forget. The owners are lovely and live in the farm house next door but its far enough away to feel completely secluded. Thankyou Alan and Helen for the most amazing few days, it really was just what we needed.
