East Riding of Yorkshire Guide

East Riding of Yorkshire offers outstanding cottage holidays with hot tubs. This historic county combines stunning coastline with the rolling Yorkshire Wolds, providing the perfect backdrop for a relaxing break.

The area boasts several top attractions including Beverley Minster (4.5/5 TripAdvisor), Flamborough Head (4.5/5) and Sewerby Hall and Gardens (4.5/5). You'll find plenty to explore from market towns to nature reserves.

Did you know poet Philip Larkin lived in Hull for 30 years? He described the East Riding landscape as "unfenced existence facing the sun" - a sentiment you might share while enjoying your hot tub!

Cottage options range from cosy one-bedroom retreats to large farmhouses for groups. Many offer luxury features alongside hot tubs - think wood burners, games rooms and stunning views across the Yorkshire countryside.

Sightseeing

East Riding of Yorkshire packs in loads of brilliant sights. I recommend starting in Beverley with its stunning 13th-century Minster (HU17 0DP, open 9am-5pm daily). The town's cobbled streets and Georgian architecture make for a great day out.

Head to the coast and you'll find Bridlington with its fantastic beaches and harbour. The RSPB Bempton Cliffs (YO15 1JF) gets a solid 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor - between March and October you can see thousands of seabirds including puffins!

History fans should visit Burton Agnes Hall (YO25 4NB, open 11am-5pm Apr-Oct). This Elizabethan manor house scores 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor and has gorgeous gardens. After all that sightseeing, your hot tub back at the cottage will feel even better!

The Deep in Hull (HU1 4DP) is one of the UK's biggest aquariums with a 4/5 TripAdvisor rating. We think it's brilliant for families - especially on rainy days. Nearby, Hull's Museums Quarter offers free entry to several excellent museums.

Pet Friendly

Dogs love East Riding holidays almost as much as their owners! The region has tons of pet-friendly beaches. Fraisthorpe Beach near Bridlington is a massive stretch of sand where dogs can run free all year round.

Many pubs welcome four-legged visitors. The Ship Inn at Sewerby (YO15 1DU) not only allows dogs but offers them treats and water bowls. The Tiger Inn in Beverley (HU17 8BE) is another great spot with a dog-friendly beer garden.

When booking your hot tub cottage, check if they provide dog beds, bowls or enclosed gardens. Many cottages in the area go the extra mile for pets. I'd recommend bringing towels specifically for your dog - the Yorkshire coast can get muddy!

Dalby Forest (YO18 7LT) has brilliant walking trails for dogs of all fitness levels. The paths are well-marked and there's plenty of parking. Just remember to keep your dog on a lead during ground-nesting bird season (March-July).

Top 3 attractions you have to see in East Riding of Yorkshire

Flamborough Head (YO15 1AR) is absolutely spectacular. This chalk headland features dramatic white cliffs, two lighthouses and incredible views. The walking paths along the clifftops give you amazing photo opportunities. One visitor told me: "We saw seals swimming just offshore - an unexpected highlight of our holiday!"

Beverley Racecourse (HU17 8QZ) hosts racing from April to September in a stunning setting. Even if you're not into betting, the atmosphere on race days is brilliant. They run family days with extra activities for kids and the food options are surprisingly good. A recent visitor said: "Great day out even though we didn't win a penny!"

Sledmere House (YO25 3XG) is a Georgian country house with amazing gardens and a working farm. The adventure playground is fantastic for kids, while adults will appreciate the art collection. They also have a great tearoom serving homemade cakes. The walled garden is particularly beautiful in summer. One TripAdvisor reviewer noted: "The house tour guides really know their stuff - we learned so much about local history."

What's the best time to visit East Riding of Yorkshire?

Summer (June-August) offers the best weather for enjoying your hot tub and exploring the coast. However, spring brings beautiful wildflowers to the Yorkshire Wolds, while autumn offers quieter beaches and cosy pubs with roaring fires.

Can I find cottages with hot tubs near the coast?

Yes! There are plenty of options near Bridlington, Hornsea and Withernsea. Some even offer sea views so you can watch the waves while relaxing in your hot tub.

Are there any good walks near the cottages?

The Yorkshire Wolds Way National Trail runs through the region with 79 miles of paths across rolling hills. For shorter walks, try Millington Woods or the coastal path between Bridlington and Flamborough.

What's the best way to get around East Riding?

A car gives you the most flexibility as public transport can be limited in rural areas. However, the coastliner bus service is good for coastal towns and trains connect Hull, Beverley and Bridlington.

Where can I buy local food for cooking at my cottage?

Beverley has an excellent Saturday market. For farm shops, try Drewton's near South Cave or Bert's Barrow in Hillam. Many villages have small shops selling local produce.

Is East Riding good for cycling?

Absolutely! The gentle hills of the Yorkshire Wolds are perfect for cycling. The Way of the Roses cycle route passes through and there are plenty of quiet country lanes to explore before returning to your hot tub cottage.
